Athletes' Training starts Feb. 8

The Negros Occidental athletics teams that will compete in the Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet will start their training on Feb. 8 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

The elementary and high school boys and girls' athletics squads of Negros will be accommodated at Panaad before they see action in the regional meet in Capiz next month, Manuel De Oro, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Sports and Development Office, said.

The other teams like softball, baseball and football will begin practicing at the Panaad pitch on Feb. 28, he said, adding that some athletes will also train at the Paglaum Sports Complex.

De Oro said the Negros delegation will end their training on March 9 to travel to Roxas City, Capiz for the WVRAA Meet that will take fire off on March 12.

Negros is aiming to retain its secondary championship won in Iloilo City last year by grabbing 90 golds, 60 silvers and 22 bronzes, while the Ilonggos took the elementary title.

Area IV, bannered by standouts from Bago City, Pulupandan, La Carlota City, San Enrique and Valladolid, ruled the elementary and secondary divisions of the provincial meet held in Bacolod City in December last year. *CIT
