couple hit by ambulance

A six-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a speeding vehicle- for-hire in Guihulngan town, while a couple on board a motorcycle suffered injuries when they were bumped by an ambulance of the Amlan government, in Sibulan town, Wednesday, in Oriental Negros.

Reygan Toquero, 6, died shortly after he was taken to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City after he was hit by a V-hire vehicle in Guihulngan.

The boy's father, Avelino, said his son alighted from a motorcab and immediately crossed the road at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in Brgy. Tuway when the vehicle hit him.

The boy was thrown to the pavement and the impact caused fatal injuries in his head. He was rushed to the Guihulngan District Hospital and was later transferred to the NOPH in Dumaguete where he died minutes later.

Meanwhile, in Sibulan, couple Bebiano Catan, 45, and wife Edna, 45, of Brgy. San Antonio, in the town, suffered injuries when an ambulance bumped their motorcycle Wednesday evening in Brgy. Ajong, Sibulan

Police said the motorcycle was about to turn into an interior road when they were hit. They were thrown to the ground. The driver of the ambulance was identified as Edgardo Masamong, 51, married of Brgy. Bio-os, Amlan, who, at the time, was ferrying a patient to the hospital.

After the collision, Masamong stopped the ambulance, and brought the victims to the Silliman University Medical Center, before proceeding to the NOPH with his patient from Amlan.*
