SOUTHERN LADIES OPEN
Piccio in joint fifth

Teenager Mia Piccio registered an opening-round 58 for joint fifth place yesterday at the start of the Southern Ladies Open at the tree-lined Del Monte Golf Club in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

It was a dismal day, however, for Bacoleņa Anya Tanpinco, who struggled with a 50 for a share of the 10th to 14th places in the three-day tournament.

Under the Molave scoring system where even-par is scored at 54, Lora Roberto and Crystal Shin zoomed to a share of the overnight lead with 58s, followed by Park of Korea (57), Aileen Yao (55), Piccio and Lovelyn Guioguio, who are tied at fifth.

In the team competition, the NGAP squad of Piccio, Yao and Lina de Guzman seized the lead under the PAL points system, combining for 121 points, followed by Southwoods composed of Carmelette Villaroman, Tanpinco and Roberto. *CPT
