Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao may fight Mexican legend Erik
Morales again in September in the third and final match of their
megabuck trilogy.
This was confirmed by Pacquiao in an interview over GMA News
last night. The Filipino boxer, however, did not elaborate on the
details of the rematch.
Pacquiao and Morales split the first two fights with the Filipino
coming up with a sensational 10th round technical knockout win over
the Mexican in Las Vegas two weeks ago.
Pacquiao, who bowed to Morales via unanimous decision in their
first battle in March 2005, is scheduled to leave for Japan today
to be at ringside when reigning Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation
champions Malcolm Tuñacao and Randy Suico defend their belts on
Sunday in Nagoya.
Morales camp has reportedly agreed to push through with Pacquiao-Morales
III, which was stated in one of the clauses in the contract if the
Filipino wins the second match.
The Mexican is currently recuperating from the injuries he
sustained in the beating he suffered from Pacquiao, an adopted son
of Bacolod City, in his home in Tijuana, Mexico.
Before fighting Morales, Pacquiao, a two-time world champion,
is expected to have a tune-up match tentatively set in June that
will most likely be held in Manila.
Pacquiao, whose knockout victory against current World Boxing
Council super featherweight champ Marco Antonio Barrera catapulted
him to superstar status, jumped to third in Ring Magazine's pound-for-pound
list headed by Floyd Mayweather and Winky Wright, after his demolition
of Morales. *CPT
