Bais City planning to
buy imported guns

The Bais City government in Oriental Negros is contemplating the purchase of imported high-powered firearms for use by its police force.

The firearms will include AK-47, M14 rifles and shotguns.

Mayor Hector Villanueva said half of the more than 30 police officers in Bais do not have long firearms. He said the appropriation for the purchase of firearms last year was P1 million but this year, the budget had yet to be approved.

Villanueva said the rebels are better off than the police in terms of firearms acquisition. He said he is supporting the programs of the police from fuel consumption to meal allowances, and even to cellphone loads which he gets from his representation allowance.

He warned that if the fuel tanks of police vehicle are empty during emergencies, he will immediately order the removal of its driver.*
