'General', 4 officers
detained for assault

A man claiming to be the "World Commander of the International Police" was jailed with four of his "officers", for staging an "assault" at Police Precinct 3 in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City at about 8:50 last night, Senior Supt. Pedro Merced, Bacolod police director, said.

"General" Quirino called reporters and the police names from his cell last night.*

Detained was "General" Julio Quirino who entered the police precinct to demand the release of one of his men who figured in a traffic mishap in Barangay Bata, Bacolod, and was detained for illegal possession of a .45 caliber revolver, SPO2 Larry Benitez said.

Quirino, who appeared to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor, entered the precinct and shouted at the policemen "Pagwa-a nyo tawo ko, kay mapatyanay ta di kon indi nyo pagwaon tawo ko (Release my man, we will kill each other here if you don't release him)", and drew his .45 caliber revolver, Benitez said. moremoremore

Farmer gets 160 years
for killing 4 sisters

A 26-year-old farmer was sentenced to 160 years imprisonment yesterday for hacking to death the four minor daughters of his neighbor and burning their house down in Cauayan town, Negros Occidental, with them inside.

Kabankalan Regional Trial Court Judge Henry Arles found Saturnio Colasing Labanes guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the murder of the four minors and sentenced him to reclusion perpetua for each count.

Labanes was also ordered to pay his victims' heirs P125,000 for each child as civil indemnity and damages. moremoremore

15-year-old shot
dead in Bacolod

A 15-year-old boy was shot dead reportedly by another teenager with an alleged improvised firearm, locally known as "sumpak", while he and his friends were walking along Malaspina-Lopez Jaena streets, in Bacolod City at about 2 p.m. yesterday.

Jess dela Pena Magno, of Crotons-A, Brgy. Old Sagay, Sagay City in Negros Occidental was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, but died later, Senior Insp. Ulysses Ortiz, Precinct 4 commander told the DAILY STAR.
