Escalante chessfest scheduled

Three crowns are up for grabs in the 3rd Mayor Santiago G. Barcelona Jr. Chess Tournament set Feb. 25 to 26 at the Escalante City Center Conference Room in Escalante City.

The competitors will vie for the championships in the 10-Under and 12-Under categories, which are exclusive for Escalante chessers, and the open division that can be participated in by non-Escalante woodpushers.

The champions in the 10-Under and 12-Under categories will be given P300 and a trophy, while the first runners-up will receive P200 and a medal. The second runners-up will have P100 and a medal.

The organizers will also award the best female performers in the 10-Under and 12-Under divisions with P100 each, and a medal.

The winner in the open category will receive P3,000, while the second and third placers will be given P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.

Seven hundred pesos will be awarded to the fourth placer; P500 for the fifth placer, and P300 will be handed to the sixth placer. Each of the top six chessers will also receive a trophy.

Free registration will be entitled to the participants in the 10-Under and 12-Under divisions, but they should bring their birth certificates, while the registration fee for the open category chessers is pegged at P100.
