The Bacolod City Veterinary Office has administered anti-rabies
vaccinations to 11,991 dogs in Bacolod City from January to December
last year, City Veterinarian Dr. Adelo Daroy said yesterday.
Daroy said his office has recorded five deaths caused by rabies
infection which only occurred between January to March 2005.
He said that out of the 2,654 stray dogs caught by personnel
of the City Pound last year; 2,194 have been terminated; 456 were
claimed and seven were adopted.
Daroy said laboratory results have confirmed that 55 dogs
tested positive for rabies. He said the number of positive cases
reduced due to the operation of the City Pound and the massive anti-rabies
campaign conducted by the city government.
He said his office will administer anti-rabies vaccination to
all dogs in the 61 barangays in Bacolod City starting today until
April 30.*CGS
