Solon pushes for
Bacolod Palaro '06 bid

Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella yesterday said he will bid for the City to host the 2006 Palarong Pambansa if he will be allowed by the Department of Education.

The solon said a province in Luzon is supposed to host the national meet for the country's elementary and high school athletes, after Visayas hosted the competitions last year when the Games were staged in Iloilo City.

Puentevella, however, said Bacolod, which hosted five events of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games last year, is ready if it is given the hosting job.

"I will bid for Bacolod to host the Palaro if Luzon does not have an alternative venue. Bacolod would be the best choice outside Luzon because it has enough facilities," Puentevella told the DAILY STAR.

Nueva Ecija has been designated to host the Games but backed out last week because it does not have adequate facilities.

Puentevella said he will ask DepEd acting secretary Fe Hidalgo today if Bacolod will be allowed to host the Palaro since there is no definite venue in Luzon yet.

Naga is the only remaining city in Luzon bidding to host the 2006 Palarong Pambansa. *CIT
