Investments generated by three major sectors in Negros Occidental
in 2005 totaled P11.510 billion, statistics of the local office
of the Department of Trade and Industry show.
The figures were based on the business name registrations from
January to December last year.
Investments in the services sector reached P10.795 billion.
These include figures in trading and retailing, P9.501 billion;
dwelling/real estate, P611.829 million; private professional services,
P288.077 million; finance/pawnshop, P272.363 million; transportation,
communication and storage, P99.316 million; and other businesses,
P22.628 million.
In the industry sector, which includes mining and quarrying,
construction, and manufacturing, total investments generated was
P687.469 million. Manufacturing hit P635.647 million while construction,
P46.566 million, and mining and quarrying, P5.255 million.
Under manufacturing are businesses in chemicals and related
products, which post the highest investments figure of P559.815
million, as well as concrete products, crop processing, fiber glass,
fireworks, furniture, garments, gift, toys and housewares, metalworks,
mineral processing, processed food and beverage and other related
trades.
The agriculture, fishery and forestry sector posted P27.77
million in total investments in 2005.
Last year, investments generated in January reached P268.121
million; February, P82.616 million; March, P254.702 million; April,
P272.9 million; May, P114.379 million; June, P737,036 million;
July, P944.569 million; August, P480.072 million; September, P7.633
billion; October, P127.392 million, November, P270.464 million;
