Silay marks Rizal Day

Rizal Day will be celebrated today in Silay City, Negros Occidental, following a 6 a.m. Mass to be officiated by Fr. Felix Pasquin at the San Diego Pro-Cathedral, a press release from the city said.

Mayor Carlo Gamban, Vice Mayor Jay Jalandoni, and Senior Insp. Samuel Mina will lead the wreath-laying ceremony at the public plaza, followed by the awarding of outstanding Silaynons and organizations.

The awardees are: in education - Doņa Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School, Gov. Emilio Gaston Memorial Elementary School, Guimbalaon Elementary School, Hawaiian-Philippines Co. Elementary School, and Dr. Emolyn Corteza, the press release said.

In journalism, to be awarded are the Silay City Schools Division, Jason Artus, Clark John Ocleasa and May Monje; health services -- Silay City Health Office-TB DOTS program, Silay City Health Department, and Rachel Pabalate; tourism, arts and culture -- Ramon Hofileņa, Severino Pacete, Lyn Gamboa, Tony Montinola and Kabataang Silay Ensemble; public service -- Fr. Felix Pasquin, Councilor Marie June Castro, Luis Ledesma, Luz Bitalac, Leslie Rose Gacuma, Fatima Mae Mana, Ma. Lucille Peņaranda, Hardy Montero and Michael Parreņo; sports -- Ruby Ann Longno, Judy Mae Iso, Ronald Benedict Mate, Rambel Martines, Archie Pabon, Angel Lyn Pudadera, Ruby Ann Montaner, Mary Grace Mermal, Gemma Barracoso, Mae Marie Jaena, Myrwin Agolino, Raymund Puda, Edwin Marifosque, Fritz Lozada, Jinky Sales, Dannilyn Lequigan, Sonny Boy Jaro, Ma. Teresa Aboy, Neil Anthony Llorca, Benjamin Roa, Ronald Premaylon, Elmer Moreno and Glenn Dacula, the press release said.

Winners of the Viva Parol contest will also be announced at the program, the press release added.*
