WV now 2nd highest
rice producer in RP

Western Visayas now ranks second in terms of rice production among the regions in the Philippines, Department of Agriculture 6 figures show.

Based on preliminary data, the region's rice production grew from around 1.9 metric tons in 2005 to 2.9 metric tons this year.

DA Regional Executive Director Jindra Linda Demeterio said the growth in rice production indicates that Region 6 continues to be rice sufficient and has more than adequate stocks for Western Visayas.

Teletech adding 500
agents in Dumaguete

US-based TeleTech has announced it plans to increase agent seats by at least 500 at its new call center site in Dumaguete City, a press release said yesterday.

TeleTech is the first business process outsourcing company to set up business in Dumaguete with a three-year exclusive agreement with the city government, the press release said.

Local site director Mel Montano said they have started hiring more workers and aim to reach at least 1,000 seats by next year.

NN to sail daily to Manila
in first week of January

Negros Navigation said in a press release it will sail to Manila daily in the first week of January to enable its provincial passengers to return to Manila and other places in Luzon without hassle.

It will have trips from Dumaguete to Manila via Bacolod from January 1 to 7.

NN will leave Bacolod for Manila on January 1 at 12 noon.

M/S St. Peter the Apostle will sail from Bacolod to Cagayan de Oro on January 2 at 11:30 a.m., the press release said.
