Western Visayas now ranks second in terms of rice
production among the regions in the Philippines, Department of
Agriculture 6 figures show.
Based on preliminary data, the region's rice production
grew from around 1.9 metric tons in 2005 to 2.9 metric tons this
year.
DA Regional Executive Director Jindra Linda Demeterio
said the growth in rice production indicates that Region 6 continues
to be rice sufficient and has more than adequate stocks for Western
Visayas.
