Deaf-mute knifed dead

A deaf-mute was stabbed dead allegedly by an unidentified person in front of Libra Mart at Mercedes Street, Bacolod City, at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Gigi Alcala Sabanal, 25, also a trisikad driver, temporarily residing at Gonzaga Extension, Brgy. 28, Bacolod City was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital with multiple stab wounds on his body, but was declared dead by the attending physician, police reports said.

Rogelio Pontillano Amacanon, of Brgy. Taculing told the police his nephew was a native of Purok Tabunan, Brgy. Pandanon, Don Salvador Benedicto town, Negros Occidental, police reports said.

The motive of the stabbing is still being investigated by Police Station 6 investigators. Meanwhile, Filoteo Duenio Jr., 40, and an employee of ABS-CBN Bacolod was also rushed to the CLMMRH with head and body injuries incurred when his motorcycle swerved off the road at Blumentrit, Murcia town at about 11:26 p.m. Saturday, hospital reports said.*DMG

Man runs amuck, collared

34-year-old man allegedly ran amok and chased Bacolod police officers at the Hillside Subdivision, Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, at about 11 a.m. yesterday.

Ramon Natabio, of Silay City, Negros Occidental was arrested after two hours of negotiation, PO1 Orven Padernal, of Police Station 7 yesterday told the DAILY STAR.

Padernal said he and four companions responded to the subdivision when Natabio's brother-in-law informed them that he had gone wild and threatened his relatives with a cane cutter.

When they arrived, Padernal said Natabio was at their backyard stabbing chairs and tables. He said they tried to pacify the suspect, but he chased them.

He said Natabio took hold of a chicken and hacked it dead before them. He said they asked for additional policemen and sought help from the Bureau of Fire Protection who splashed water on Natabio.

Two hours later, Padernal said Natabio's cane cutter was damaged enabling them to arrest and handcuff him.

He said Natabio was singing and laughing when they brought him to the police station so they brought him to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital to calm him.

Meanwhile, Ryan Moises Virata, 31, married, of Purok Lubi, Brgy. 3, Bacolod City was arrested by Police Station 2 for allegedly firing his gun and threatening Mary Ann Singuelas, 24, in the barangay at about 1 a.m. Monday, police reports said.

Singuelas told the police Virata, who was under the influence of intoxicating liquor, indiscriminately fired his .45 caliber pistol with two magazines and live bullets, police reports said.

Virata is now detained in the lock-up cell of Police Station 2 for grave threats, police reports also said.*DMG

3 salisi suspects nabbed

Three residents of Silay, Negros Occidental, were arrested in the act of stealing a DVD player at the Indian Emporium at Gonzaga Street, Bacolod City, at about 11:45 a.m. Monday.

Arrested were Shirley Liboon Panesa, 48; Helen Reyes, 35; and Jimmy Blanco Reyes, 43, all of Sitio Veranio, Silay City for allegedly stealing the DVD unit worth P1,750 from the establishment, police reports said.

The three were intercepted by security guard Arjie Mahilum Suanque who told the police he, saleslady Jocelyn Garnado and watch repairman Reynold Bayot, 48, apprehended the suspects, police reports said.

The suspects are now detained in the lock-up cell of Police Station 1 for theft complaints.

Meanwhile, Elsa Pasican Abillar, 47, married, of Purok Pag-asa, Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City reported to Police Station 6 that an unidentified person riding on a motorcycle snatched her bag while she was walking at Burgos-Gustilo streets, Bacolod City at about 9:20 a.m. Monday.

Abillar told the police that her bag contained a Nokia 3350 cellphone, P3,000 in cash and assorted documents, police reports also said.*DMG
