A show for a cause
"Pag-ulikid" or "Looking Back," a dance for a cause by the Ka-anyag
Pilipinas Dance Co. and the Magnificent Rondalla, was staged recently
to raise funds for the restoration and renovation of the Pope John
Paul Cultural Center of the Sacred Heart Seminary in Bacolod City.
Sacred Heart Seminary director, Rev. Father Gerardo Alminasa,
welcomed everybody to the performance Saturday.
Ka-anyag, the dance company to watch according to art critic Reynaldo
Alejandro, debuted at the Luce Auditorium of Siliman University
in 1977 and has since received numerous citations and awards.
Today, the company has 50 dance and rondalla scholars since West
Negros College provides scholarships for the poor but deserving
and talented students.
The rondalla is under the tutelage of Jegger Anhao and Arlene
Nomes. Ismael "Maeng" Java is the artistic director/choreographer,
while Girlie Belzunce is the consultant.
REMEMBER:
"Most of our suspicions of others are aroused by our knowledge
of ourselves."*
