BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

The agonizing wait for the Philippines' first gold in the 15th Asian Games is finally over, thanks to a pair of billiard aces.

Cue artists Antonio "Gaga" Gabica and Jeffrey De Luna beat separate rivals last night to arrange an all-Filipino finals in the men's 9-ball singles hostilities, following the victory of Negrense Joan Tipon in the semifinals of the boxing competitions 11 days into the Asiad in Doha, Qatar.

The 34-year-old Gabica cruised to an easy 11-5 triumph over Young Hwa Jeoung of Korea in the semis, while De Luna defeated Chinese Taipei bet Ching Shun Yang, 11-7, at the Al-Sadd Multi-Purpose Hall. The Filipinos were set to battle each other at 12:30 this morning for the country's first gold medal.
