Monico: I'm prepared for
any opponent in '07
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella yesterday said he is prepared for any opponent in the race for Bacolod's lone congressional seat in the May 2007 polls, and that he has yet to chose whom he will run with.

Asked if he will run with former Bacolod Mayor Joy Valdez in the May polls, Puentevella said "I am with (Evelio) Leonardia, with Valdez, with (Vicente) Ponteras, with Cano Tan and who other candidate will run for mayor, I am everybody's friend."

Puentevella said he has yet to decide on who he will run with in the May polls and will make an announcement when that happens. On claims that the Palanca and Cojuangco groups will gang up on him in the next elections, Puentevella said in the last election that did not happen so why should it happen now.

"I don't think we can presume anything at this stage. I must be a very strong contender (if that happens). For everybody to gang up on me would be a compliment. That means they look at me as formidable," he said.

He pointed out that he garnered the most number of votes in a Bacolod congressional race in the last elections.

I thank the people of Bacolod for giving me more than 1000,000 votes and my goal now is to surpass myself, he said. He said he expects to garner more votes in the May 2007 polls.*CPG
