Bata, Estefania cagers
prevail in Mayor's Cup

Barangays Bata and Estefania trounced different opponents in the 2006 Mayor's Cup Inter-Barangay 21-Under Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports Center recently.

Bata, coached by Jomar Villamor, registered a 55-33 routing of Brgy. 14 in bracket A, while the Louie Zialcita-mentored Estefania squad turned back Singcang-Airport, 62-51, in bracket B.

Turteliano Morales spearheaded Bata's offensive attack with 10 points as Ronjoe Aquino paced Brgy. 14 in a losing effort, pouring in 17 markers.

Leading Estefania's offense were Melvin Jimenez and Michael Mariano after canning 15 and 12 markers, respectively, while Brian Samodio and Mark Ian Juanico topscored for Singcang-Airport with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Also emerging victorious against separate rivals were Brgys. 26 and 30, which is mentored by Sonny Petierre.

Brgy. 26 drubbed Brgy. 12, 70-56, in bracket A, while Brgy. 30 clipped Granada, 49-42, in bracket C. John Mark Delos Santos anchored the onslaught of Brgy. 26 with 22 points as Raffy Jay Silpao contributed 12 markers. Spearheading Brgy. 30 were Jose Salvador Villaflor and Andro Su-ay, shooting 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Assitant tournament manager Adrian Melocoton said that the best team of each bracket will advance to the single round-robin semifinals with the to two squads battling it out for the championship. *CIT
