Senior Insp. Winnie Temprosa was given full military honors including
a 21-gun salute during his burial at the Dumaguete Memorial Park
in Dumaguete City Saturday.
Temprosa was killed Nov. 29 when irate police doctor, Renato
Posclabo, ran amuck during the 13th anniversary of the PNP health
service at the multi-purpose center inside Camp Crame.
Temprosa covered the grenade dropped by Posclabo with his body
and was killed when it detonated. Five others, including Temprosa's
superior, Supt. Federico Damatac, head of PNP health services, were
injured during the incident. "He (Temprosa) died a hero. At least,
it's my only consolation," Temprosa's wife, Paz, said yesterday.
"He sacrificed his own life so that his colleagues would be saved."
Mrs. Temprosa said she and her daughter agreed to have her
husband laid to rest in Dumaguete as it was his wish, despite offers
by authorities to have the policeman buried at the Libingan ng mga
Bayani in Manila.
The policeman's widow also challenged the PNP force to
conduct a loyalty check among the ranks of generals and officers.
"I hope my husband's death would not go in vain," she said.
She added that her husband had been assigned in critical areas
in the country, but ironically died in a supposedly safe place like
Camp Crame.
Tanjay police chief Supt. Juanito Condes, a former colleague
of Temprosa, said his death should not only serve as an inspiration,
but a motivation for every police officer to keep their loyalty
intact to the police force.
PNP Provincial Director P/Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe described
Temporsa's death as an inspiration for others, while his sacrifice
has set the standard of courage and honor in the police service.*
