The FIBA Central Board yesterday gave the green light to the proposed alliance between the Philippine Olympic Committee-backed Pilipinas Basketball and Basketball Association of the Philippines, whose leaders agreed to unite and form a single cage group that will represent the country in the international basketball federation, Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella, concurrent POC first vice-president, said.

"It took us one whole day among ourselves (BAP and PB) and five hours with FIBA to reach this important decision. So let us not waste it because we are given a chance to move forward," Puentevella told the DAILY STAR.

Negrense Jojo Bardon retained his Philippine flyweight crown with a hard-earned unanimous decision win over a Abdul 'Jun' Eraham in the 12-round main event of the "Engkwentro sa San Carlos Tres" at the San Carlos City Auditorium in Negros Occidental.

The San Carlos-born Bardon defeated the Fil-Indon Eraham of Saranggani Province via scores of 116-112, 117-111, 115-113. The win was Bardon's first since bringing home the title against Rocky Fuentes in a split decision triumph at the Mandaue City Sports Complex in Cebu last March.

Trainer Juanito Ablaca said Bardon, who improved to 15 wins with eight coming via knockouts, is now looking forward to defend his belt against top contender Federico Catubay.

Striker Frederick Jan Serios delivered a hat-trick and an assist to lead the Bacolod United Football Club in crushing Bago City FC, 4-0, Sunday for the Division 2 title of the NOFA Men's Open Provincial Championships at the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City.

Serios, a former University of St. La Salle varsitarian, broke the ice in the 6th minute by capitalizing on a miscue by the Bago defenders, before adding another goal in the 18th minute with a blistering strike that deflected off a Bagoeño before going in. Right winger Ramon Janeo, an assistant coach at USLS, booted in a goal from close range in the 32nd off a pass from Serios, before the Bacolod United striker sealed the win for his squad in the 44th minute with an easy goal after Bago's goalkeeper failed to clear the ball outside the box.
