ETCS snares crown in US event

Education and Training Center School posted a 20-7 clobbering of the Bulldogs yesterday to complete a three-game sweep for the title of the 2006 Olympia Softball Tournament in Washington, USA.

The Bacolod City-based softbelles, mentored by Lagrimas Ciokon, Vilda Benjamin and Dina Barlita, started their campaign with a 10-3 win over an Olympia-based squad, before edging the Mustangs, 2-1, Wednesday.

Team coordinator Tess Himpolaran told the DAILY STAR that ETCS was invited by the Filipino community in Washington to see action in the tournament participated in by the different districts of Olympia.

San Carlos boxer to
defend RP flyweight title

Negrense Jojo Bardon will put his Philippine flyweight crown on the line against Abdul Eraham of Saranggani Province in the "Engkwentro sa San Carlos Tres" tomorrow at the San Carlos City Auditorium in Negros Occidental.

Bardon, who has 14 wins with eight coming via knockouts, is fresh from a 12-round split decision victory over Rocky Fuentes at the Mandaue City Sports Complex in Cebu last March. Ilonggo Van Bantillan collides with Romeo Buhawi of Cebu in the super bantamweight division, while Marron Ursal of San Carlos battles Arnel Barricuatro of Ormoc in the other bout.

San Carlos-born boxers Angelito Abella and Jimboy Casipli tussle with Dumaguete bets Rodel Calbug and Ian Arcalin, respectively, in the mini-flyweight category.

Po's gains finals berth

A three-point play from Mars Echarri and Richard Co's free throw conversion in the dying seconds gave Po's Marketing the first finals berth by nipping Lotus Neo Ballpen, 77-75, Wednesday night in the semis of the 2nd Conference of the Fil-Sino Inter-color Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Echarri completed a three-point play, before Co sank one of his two crucial free throws with four seconds remaining to give Po's a 77-75 buffer after Lotus grabbed the lead at 75-73 on one free throw connection each by Yubi Miag-ao and Chibon Uy.
