San Carlos boxer to
defend RP flyweight title

Negrense Jojo Bardon will put his Philippine flyweight crown on the line against Abdul Eraham of Saranggani Province in the "Engkwentro sa San Carlos Tres" tomorrow at the San Carlos City Auditorium in Negros Occidental.

Bardon, who has 14 wins with eight coming via knockouts, is fresh from a 12-round split decision victory over Rocky Fuentes at the Mandaue City Sports Complex in Cebu last March. Ilonggo Van Bantillan collides with Romeo Buhawi of Cebu in the super bantamweight division, while Marron Ursal of San Carlos battles Arnel Barricuatro of Ormoc in the other bout.

San Carlos-born boxers Angelito Abella and Jimboy Casipli tussle with Dumaguete bets Rodel Calbug and Ian Arcalin, respectively, in the mini-flyweight category.

Local standout Ronnie Peņonal clashes with Cebuano Reggie Campos in the bantamweight class.

Amateur fights between Cebu and San Carlos pugilists will also be showcased in the tournament that is hosted by the San Carlos City Boxing Club in cooperation with the San Carlos local government.

San Carlos Vice-Mayor Ginggo Valmayor, who is also the SCCBC chairman, said that the city and club, through boxing promoter Wakee Salud, have invited Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, Bacolod City's adopted son, to attend the event. Former world champion Gerry Peņalosa, who hails from San Carlos, has also been invited to grace the hostilities together with up-and-coming boxer Jimrex Jaca of Oriental Negros, Valmayor said. The one-day event is also supported by "Engkwentro Tres", which is Salud's promotions. *CIT
