The city of Kabankalan outranked two urbanized cities
and 13 others in Region 6 in net income, the Commission on Audit
Financial Report for 2005 disclosed.
Kabankalan posted a net income of P109.52 million
to rank 32nd among 117 cities in the country, a press release
from the city government said.
The city's gross income amounted to P398,888,000,
placing third after the cities of Bacolod and Iloilo. 


Brownout
scheduled on Sunday
Power consumers in Bacolod City and Silay City will
experience service interruptions on Sunday, Aug. 27, as the Central
Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. and Transco will conduct preventive
maintenance work over the weekend.
Portions of Reclamation Feeder 1, covering Mabini,
Rizal, Galo and 12th-Lacson Streets, will experience as nine-hour
brownout, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., a CENECO press release said.
Fifteen-minute interruptions, from 8 to 8:15 a.m.
and 4:45 to 5 p.m., will also be experienced by consumers in the
San Sebastian-Dawis area; San Juan Street, from Thunderbugs to
Gonzaga Street; portion of City Hall facing Luzuriaga; Plaza Mart,
Mabini Street, from CENECO to Galo; Galo Street, from Mabini to
Gatuslao; Gatuslao Street, from Burgos to Rizal Street; Locsin
Street, from Galo to Rizal; Nueva Street, McDonald's;

of int'l BID planning
Negrense agriculturist Roberto Alaban made it to
the Top 25 of the Business in Development Challenge, an international
business planning competition that drew 1,600 entries from 90
countries.
The BID Challenge, organized by the Philippine
Business for Social Progress, supports innovative business ideas
that reduce poverty in developing countries at a profit. Participants
are also able to start their business through investor financing.
In his entry, Alaban proposes to produce high-yielding vegetables
using simplified, non-circulating hydroponics to seize the opportunity
brought about by the increase in vegetable salad consumption across
all economic classes.
