Pa seeks probe
of baby's death
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A Negrense lawyer sought an investigation of a local hospital for what he calls possible negligence, that had caused the death of his baby on July 17.

Ariel Malunes, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer of E.B,Magalona, said he has requested the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a probe of the Bacolod Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital.

His wife, Lotus May, delivered a baby girl by ceasarian section at the hospital on July 13. Four days later, the baby girl died due to "septic shock, disseminated intravascular coagulopathy" as stipulated in the death certificate, Malunes said.

However, he added, the only bacteria traced in the blood of his baby, that caused her death was "pseudomonas aerugino", which can be acquired from clinics, and hospital's apparatuses, citing results of his baby's blood examinations.

The hospital, in a statement sent to the DAILY STAR, vehemently denied the accusations of Malunes.

"Everything was done in accordance with the generally accepted medical procedures coupled with utmost care and diligence required from a competent physician," the hospital statement said.

The hospital management assured the public that nothing is hidden as it will continue to render the usual proper medical procedures and service, pursuant to the time honored principle of "Give the best medical service and care affordable to the people of Bacolod".

As the matter is now with the National Bureau of Investigation, the hospital said it reserves the right to answer point-by-point the issues as may be raised should a formal complaint be lodged.*GPB
