The salaries of key officials of Bacolod City, including that
of the Mayor, have been delayed for several days now because their
payroll had to be prepared manually.
This was the result of the drenching of computers at the Management
Information Technology and Computer Services when a casual employee
of the Public Information Office failed to turn off a faucet on
the evening of August 1, causing flooding and damage to equipment
of offices located on the ground floor of City Hall.
Secretary to the Mayor Roger Balo said he as well as the Mayor's
executive assistants, had not yet received their salaries yesterday.
They normally receive their salaries between the 7th to the
9th day of the month or the 12th to the 13th day.
However, he said personnel of small departments and sections
like the Environment and Natural Resources Office and the City Agriculture
Office have already been paid. MITCS head Perlette Caceres said
that out of the 14 servers affected, three have been operational
since Friday. She said these are the servers of the Land Tax Division,
the Business Permits and a back-up server.
She said they have not yet accounted for the computers of
other offices that were sent to them for repair since they prioritized
the repair of the servers in order that the Land Tax Division and
the Business Permit Section can operate.
City Legal Officer Allan Zamora said he has not yet receive
the report of the MITCS, Land Tax Division and City Treasurer on
the extent of damage.
"Since the equipment of other offices are now operational, I would
suppose that the damage is minimal," he said. The affected offices
and departments have made no requests yet to purchase new equipment,
he added.*CGS
