Nopsscea technical
meeting scheduled
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

Tournament managers and coaches of the competing schools will decide on the format of their respective events during a NOPSSCEA technical meeting at 3 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the University of St. La Salle campus in Bacolod City.

NOPSSCEA Sports Task Force chairman Roger Banzuela said the initial schedule of the disciplines will also be agreed upon during the meeting that will also be attended by the school sports moderators.

The first phase of NOPSSCEA's 26th Season will be staged from August to October, while the second phase is set from November to January. The third and final phase of the annual hostilities will be held from February to March.

Banzuela, who had chaired the NOPSSCEA STF from 1989-2004, said that the participating schools in each event will also be bracketed in case there will be a lot of competing squads per discipline.

Thirty schools have signified their participation so far in the school-based meet that takes centerstage on Sept. 23 at the USLS Coliseum with all of the athletes required to attend the kick-off rites.

Banzuela, who is also the Philippine Volleyball Federation president, has extended the deadline for the submission of entries on Sept 25.

Banzuela said that he is still expecting more schools to confirm their entries in the annual competitions after 42 schools joined the school-based last year. For the first time, the NOPSSCEA hostilities will be aired by Sunshine Channel through its show Sports in Focus and the beach volleyball tournament in the high school and collegiate levels have also been calendared for this season. *CIT
