Education and Training Center School started its bid for an international
title with a win yesterday in the 2006 Junior League Softball World
Series at Field B of Everest Park in Kirkland, Washington.
The ETCS softball players, donning the Asia-Pacific colors,
registered a convincing 4-0 victory over America West, bannered
by the lady clouters of Murrayhill LL from Beaverton, Oregon, to
share the early lead in Pool B with the Naples Girls Softball LL-bannered
America South squad, 6-0 winner over Latin America.
America South, represented by the softbelles of Lake Wales
LL from Florida last year, is the defending champion of the girls'
13-14 hostilities.
ETCS, mentored by Vilda Benjamin, Dina Barlita and Lagrimas
Ciokon, hopes to duplicate the feat of the controversy-stricken
Paglaum Village National High School squad that snared the country's
first and only World Series crown three years ago.
The ETCS softbelles gun for their second consecutive victory
when they battle the Central America lady clouters from Elyria LL
of Ohio, in Field A at 8 a.m. today. The Bacoleņas will collide
with America South in Field A at 5 a.m. on Thursday, before finishing
its elimination-round campaign against Latin America in Field B
at 6:15 a.m. on Friday.
ETCS, which placed second in the recent Palarong Pambansa,
has finished third in its previous two World Series campaigns.
Games in Pool A yesterday saw America East demolishing Europe-Middle
East-Afirca, 11-1, and America Southwest routing host District IX
Kirkland National LL, 10-5.
The top two squads in each group will qualify for the crossover
semifinal round. *CIT
