Mayor Carminia Bascon of Himamaylan City, Negros
Occidental received for the fourth time the Sandugo Outstanding
Local Chief Executive Award, a press release from the city said.
The award was for Bascon's outstanding support,
commitment and active involvement in the promotion of voluntary
blood donation.
The city has also been a consistent top performer
in bloodletting activities conducted monthly at the Sentrong Sigla-City
Health Office, the press release said. Others from Himamaylan who
received the award are barangay captains Evangeline Gran (Caradio-an),
Felicidad Badajos (Su-ay), Rita Ann Tamargo (Brgy. 1 Poblacion);
and Ofelia Sencil (Brgy. 4), the press release added.*

Optometrist to
attend gab on myopia
Dr. Melissa Anglo, a low vision optometrist and a
fellow of the Philippine College of Optometrists, with three other
Filipino optometrists from Manila, will attend the 11th International
Myopia Conference in Singapore on August 16-18, a press release
from her family said.
At the conference research scientists and eye
care professionals will present the latest findings in myopia (nearsightedness)
research.
Interventions to decrease the progression of myopia,
its genetics, public health and vision screening programs, and new
strategies to prevent myopia are some of the highlights of the conference,
the press release added.*

schedules
grand reunion
The Gimotea clan elected yesterday their representatives
for Negros Occidental and Bacolod City to their grand family reunion
in Guimbal in December 2006.
At a meeting held at the Ramirez residence in
Sta. Clara Subdivision, Bacolod City, Rudy Remitio was appointed
to represent the descendants of Nicolas Gimotea, Thor Familiaran
for the descendants of Josefa Gimotea-Gerona, Ferdinand Emmanuel
"Bobot" Gayoles for the Josefa Gimotea-Gayoles clan, and Al Gimotea
and Marilou Napoles the Alejandro Gimotea clan.
Also present were Ann Ruth Gealon, Petra Abkilan,
Suzette Eligado, Lorna Kayabyab, Janete Remetio, Evelyn Andrade,

'Operation
Glow'
launching set
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia will lead the launching
of the "Operation Glow" project of the Rotary Club of Bacolod-Marapara,
3:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club
in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City, a Rotary press release said.
The program, with support from 3M, is aimed to
improve road safety by making trisikads more visible at night, it
also said. The mayor will apply the 3M tape to the first batch of
10 trisikads operating at the Bata Subdivision.
