ASGI turns 41

The Association of Sugarcane Growers Inc. marked its 41st year last Saturday with a celebration at the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters compound in Bacolod City.

NFSP said in a press release the event was attended by more than 300 planter-members from Bacolod, Murcia and their neighboring areas. ASGI president Enrique Rojas, who is also president of NFSP, said the association's production this crop year is 20 percent higher than last year's.

With the unprecedented increase in sugar prices, this increase in production benefited the small farmers who make up the majority of the association's membership, he said in the press release.

Primo Esleyer, head of the Sugarcane Growers Multi-Purpose Cooperative, said the cooperative gave out dividends and rebates to its members.

Baldomero Rio Jr., ASGI vice president, and Gerardo Rojas, head of the Mill District Development Council, said the MDDC recently acquired a dump truck and a ten-wheeler truck, the press release said.

They encouraged members to avail of the services of the MDDC's equipment to further improve their farm's productivity.

During the raffle draw, Mike Justo of Hacienda Nato, Murcia won the grand prize a Suzuki Multi-Cab, the press release added.*
