Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the Bacolod IT Focus Team, said in a press release yesterday the IT Team and representatives from the academe and private sector discussed the need for more workers during their meeting last week with executives of two companies now operating in Bacolod.

She said Raymund Nones, in-charge of Bacolod operations of Solegy, a leading VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) software firm in the US, said they are looking for software developers skilled in Java and C++, systems administrators, technical support engineers and web/multi-media designers.

Solegy president, Eric Hernaez, a Negrense, had earlier assured their company's support for the city's efforts to educate the public about the trends in software and systems development industry, Batapa-Sigue said.

Another company looking for workers is Teleperformance, an international call center company, which just opened its base at the Bacolod Convention Plaza Hotel which it needs technical support representatives.

Jheanette Velandria of Teleperformance said applicants must have technical knowledge or background in computers as well as good communication skills, she added.*
