Nopsscea sportsfest
attracts 30 schools

Thirty schools will vie for the crowns at stake in the 26th Season of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association that kicks off on Sept. 23 at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City.

The sports moderators of the schools finalized their entries during a meeting that was presided by NOPSSCEA Sports Task Force chairman Roger Banzuela at Room 10 of USLS yesterday

. Banzuela, who had served as the association's STF head from 1989-2004, said he is extending the deadline of the submission of entries to August 25 for the other schools that would still like to participate in the annual sports competitions.

The screening committee was also formed yesterday with Ericsson Rios, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos sports director, acting as the chairman, while Malot Lozada of USLS will be his deputy. Lozada will also be the deputy chairman of Banzuela in the collegiate hostilities of the school-based meet that will also hold events in the elementary and high school categories.

Banzuela, who also serves as the Philippine Volleyball Federation president and the USLS varsity sports director, said that a technical meeting between the tournament managers and the coaches or team representatives of the competing schools will be held at 3 p.m. on Sept. 1. The La Sallian athletes are expected to lead the pack as they gun for their 18th straight overall championship.

Challenging the reigning titlists are West Negros College, Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod, UNO-R Bacolod, Bacolod Tay Tung High School, Christian Academy of Bacolod, Cadiz-based Cedar Institute, Holy Family High School, John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation, La Consolacion College-Gardenville, La Consolacion Academy-Murcia and LCC-Bacolod.

Also making a run for the overall crown are Living Heritage Christian Academy, Mansilingan Christian Academy, Megumi Academy, Queen of Peace School, Riverside College, St. Benilde School, St. Francis of Assisi-Silay, Silay Institute, St. John's Institute, St. Joseph's School-La Salle, St. Rose of Lima School and St. Scholastica's Academy. Other participating schools are St. Theresita's Academy, Tangub Christian Academy, Trinity Christian School, UNO-R Talisay, VMA Global College and Bacolod Christian Center. *CIT
