We support the Negros Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative resolution prohibiting the posting of commercial materials on electric poles and other related facilities owned by the company. The clean-up campaign on electric posts in the city is an effort to instill among electric cooperative subscribers the need to preserve and safeguard the life span of electric poles.

The resolution also requires the immediate removal of any unauthorized billboard or posters without prior notice to those responsible for putting them up.

Commercial materials attached or installed, such as billboards, posters, streamers and other forms of advertisements are not allowed because they may obstruct the sight and direction of linemen when going up and down the poles and also prevent linemen's gear from getting entangled in them.

This includes materials posted on electric poles that hide from view, any metal attachments connected and fastened at or near ground wires that can cause electric shock when they set in contact with bare skin.

Penalties for unauthorized posting of commercial materials range from P100 to P500 for each violation, except for non-commercial temporary billboards, posters, streamers and other modes of advertisements commemorating activities of LGUs and non-commercial institutions such as schools, but only for a maximum period of two weeks.

We hope that the campaign will encourage cleanliness in the city and help minimize blackouts, while promoting awareness that every citizen has a duty to keep his or her environment safe and clean.*
