The business sector is willing to extend support to the police
in curbing criminality provided the law enforcers show results.
With the launching of the provincewide campaign against all
forms of criminality, criminals will have to think twice, Alex Sy,
president of the Filipino-Chamber of Commerce and Industry said.
Sy had joined local officials in the parade and ceremony at
the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex on Thursday. He said the community
is expecting results with justice given to the victims when crimes
are committed.
He cited several shooting incidents that have remained unresolved
despite the so-called police leads.
The business sector is totally supporting the efforts of the
police but the PNP should do its part in arresting criminals, he
also said.
An officer of the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce, who
asked not to be named, said he is expecting that after the launching
of the crime drive, strategies will be adopted for a concerted effort
against criminality and the police should show proof that it really
means business.
The League of Barangays in Dumaguete has also thrown its support
by approving an ordinance requiring "new arrivals" to register with
the barangays.
The registration of house helpers and family drivers is also
required.
Calindagan village chief Antonio Cariņo said this ordinance
is long overdue.
The Mayors League headed by Mayor Valente Yap of Bindoy said,
that the intelligence fund of each local government unit, no matter
how small combined, will be a big factor in the campaign against
criminality.*JG
