City crimes decrease
by 22%, Merced says

The total crime volume in Bacolod City has significantly decreased by 32 incidents or 22 percent in the second quarter of 2006 compared to the TCV in the first quarter of same year, Bacolod City police director Senior Supt. Pedro Merced yesterday said.

There were 140 registered incidents from April to June of this year, 72, or 51 percent, were index crimes, while 68, or 49 percent, were non-index crimes, Merced said. For index crimes, theft has the highest incidence, which is 27 or 37 percent, followed by rape - 12; robbery - 10, homicide and physical injury - 9; and murder - 5, he said.

In the first quarter, the BCPO registered 172 TCV, 84 were index crimes, and 88 were non-index, he added.

The Average Monthly Crime Rate registered at 10.16 every 100,000 Bacolod residents, while Crimes Solution Efficiency is 96 percent, Merced said.

On the comparative data on index crimes, except for the crime of homicide, there was no definite pattern of quarterly crime trends as manifested in the comparative data from 3rd quarter of 2005 to the second quarter of this year, he added.

There was a considerable decrease of robbery cases from 27 cases in the third quarter of 2005 to seven cases in the fourth quarter of the same year, which also increased to 14 and 10 cases, respectively, in the first and second quarters of 2006, Merced said.

He said he attributes the series of crimes such as robbery, thieveries and hold-up to poverty and economic problems in the country.*DMG
