City casual sacked
for faucet leak
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia approved Monday the termination of the employment of a plantilla casual employee of the Public Information Office, who failed to turn off the faucet in the PIO on Aug. 1, causing flooding and damage to equipment in the offices located on the ground floor of City Hall.

The termination of Owen Bayog was recommended by City Legal Officer Allan Zamora to the Mayor. Zamora said the act of Bayog is without question an act of gross negligence.

He said Bayog, in his explanation dated August 4, admitted that he failed to turn off the faucet in the PIO on the evening of August 1.

Zamora said that, the failure, caused flooding in the offices of the Land Tax and Administrative Division, City Treasurer, and Management Information Technology and Computer Services.

City Treasurer Florentino Guanco said that about 10 computer sets, including printers, and a still undetermined number of fluorescent lighting sets in the Land Tax Division have been reported damaged beyond repair.

He said two computer sets from the Administrative Division may also have been damaged and that the assessment-collection functions of the License Division also grounded to a halt because of the malfunction of the computer server at the MITCS.

MITCS head Perlette Caceres also informed the Mayor that seven servers, 14 computer sets, 5 computer printers, two manageable switches, which connect the various computers in the network, a scanner, books, manuals and personal files, were also damaged.

Zamora said they do not know yet the extent of damage since the City Treasurer's Office and the MITCS have not yet submitted their reports. However, he was informed yesterday by Secretary to the Mayor Roger Balo that all the servers at the MITCS are now functional, he said.*CGS
