DLNHS to raise funds for debt;
ETCS team still in World Series

BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

The principal of Domingo Lacson National High School last night said the school will hold fund-raising activities to pay its P373,000 debt to a local travel agency for its World Series campaign in the United States last year.

Esteban Albacea, who is also the DLNHS delegation head, told the DAILY STAR that the school will stage fund-raising programs, such as pageants, in order to pay their debt to Jaunts and Journeys.

Domingo Lacson still owes the agency P273,000 from its Junior League World Series in Kirkland, Washington last year and another P100,000 for their fare from Bacolod-Manila and Manila-Bacolod to process their visas.

The agency's lawyer, Jovim Entila, said the deadline for payment of the Bacolod-based team's account actually expired in June.

The DLNHS team which returned to the city Monday, also aborted its World Series trip after failing to settle its P1.2 million payment to the travel agency for their fare.

ATTEMPTS TO REPLACE PLAYER

Albacea allegedly attempted to replace one of the team's players so he could join the squad in its campaign in the international tournament.

Chito Gonzales, executive assistant of the Little League Philippines, said Albacea acted as a member of the coaching staff so he could take the place of one of the players for the US trip.

Initially, Albacea had wanted to take the place of team trainer JR Posadas, but the DLNHS principal opted to replace one of the squad's softbelles when LLP found out about his plan, Gonzales said.

Albacea, however, denied Gonzales' claim, saying that it was Posadas who was not included in the list of interviewees by the US Embassy.

The US Embassy did not grant the request to interview Posadas that the DLNHS delegation appealed for since pitcher Vicky Rose Belleza did not have to be interviewed, already having a multiple-entry visa, Albacea said.

ETCS REINSERTED IN WS ROSTER

Contrary to reports that the Education and Training Center School will not be able to participate in the World Series, the Bacolod-based team left the Philippines yesterday morning to see action in the international event, Gonzales said.

The ETCS softbelles were stricken off from the roster of the girls 13-14 championship Monday, but was once again included in the line-up later on the same day after LLP negotiated with the LL Inc. headquarters in Williamsports, Pennsylvania through e-mail, Gonzales said. *CIT .
