NBI probes wealth of
4 gov't officials
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The National Bureau of Investigation is conducting a lifestyle check on four officials of two national government agencies in Bacolod City who allegedly amassed wealth beyond their legal means, NBI Bacolod chief Philip Pecache said yesterday.

The names of the four appointed officials, three male and one female, were furnished the NBI by the Office of the Ombudsman, Pecache, who withheld their names, said.

The Office of the Ombudsman has provided us with the guidelines for the investigation and we will submit our findings to that office, he said.

This is because the prosecuting arm for government personnel is the Ombudsman, he said.

The complaints against the four is that amassed wealth like properties in high class subdivisions and high-end cars, he said.

We have information that their acquisition of properties are questionable because of their value, Pecache said, adding that some of the properties are located outside Negros.

We have to verify all these allegations before action is taken against the four, he said.

Pecache said one person has gone to the NBI office to give information but he has yet to talk to him.

The identities of those providing information will be withheld to avoid retaliation on them, he said.

Pecache said the NBI will conduct lifestyle checks against others in government if more complaints are submitted.*CPG
