Man facing illegal
possession of gun

Operatives of the Dumaguete Philippine National Police Intelligence arrested yesterday a resident of Barangay Camanjac, Dumaguete City for violation of Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294, or illegal possession of firearms.

The suspect, Francisco Castañares, 58, married and resident of the baangay was arrested by virtue of a search warrant and brought to the police station for investigation.

The search warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Rosendo Bandal, Jr. to effect the search on the house or premises of Castañares for unlawful manufacture, sale, acquisition, disposition or possession of firearms or ammunition or instruments used or intended to be used in the manufacture of firearms or ammunition.

The police led by Insp. Errol Garchitorena Jr. confiscated one .45 caliber pistol Gold Cup, two magazines long and short, and 18 live bullets for the gun.

The search was witnessed by barangay kagawad Felimon Ybañez, and barangay tanod Rogaciano Laguerta all from Brgy. Camanjac.

The operation was also conducted in the presence of Castañares who was detained pending an inquest proceeding by the prosecutor.*RG
