The officers of the Negros Occidental Private Schools
Sports Cultural and Educational Association for 2006-2008 were inducted
by Regional director Dr. Isabela Mahler, Commission on Higher Education
Western Visayas recently, a press release from NOPSSCEA said.
The officers are Jean Rivera - president, Fr. Noly
Que - vice president, Serah Grace Arcolas - secretary, Crispina
Diego - assistant secretary, Fr. James Bumangabang - treasurer,
Sr. Josephine Sugon - assistant treasurer, Dr. Rosario de Guzman
- auditor, Marlou Ordoņa - business manager, Ernesto Arbolario -
public information officer, Mildred Esmillarin and Erodita Mabayag
- directors-at-large, and task force chairmen -- Rudy Reveche -
cultural, Sr. Lucy Togle - educational, and Roger Banzuela - sports,

Bago wins Kalasag award
Bago City in Negros Occidental won the National Gawad
Kalasag Award 2006 in the Component City Category on the theme "Itaguyod
ang Kaunlaran ng Bayan, Kalamidad ay Paghandaan" held recently,
a press release from the city said.
Mayor Janet Torres received the plaque at awarding
ceremonies held at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City, it
also said. The Kalasag Awards is a program to recognize the excellence
in disaster management and humanitarian assistance of local government
units sponsored by the National Disaster Coordinating Council.
Bago City was also a national Kalasag winner in 2003,
the press release added.*

Honest
driver
returns wallet
A volunteer of the Bayanihan Driver's Club of the
Bombo Radyo Philippines-Bacolod station returned a wallet he found
containing cash and important documents to its owner, a press release
from the group said.
The driver, Patrick John Arceo, saw the wallet below
the front seat whil he was cleaning his taxi. He immediately returned
it to the owner, Barangay Kagawad Roberto Cabarles of Dos Hermanas,
Talisay City, Negros Occidental, the press release added.*

Riverside
hosts NOPSSCEA
silver anniversary culmination
About 1,000 teachers, non-teaching personnel and
administrators attended the closing of the Negros Occidental Private
Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association Silver Jubilee
at Riverside College, Bacolod City, recently.
Newly-elected president Jean Rivera of Riverside
College welcomed the participants from private schools all over
the province, a Riverside press release said.
Guest speaker was Fr. Emilio Jaruda, NOPSSCEA
president from 2001 to 2006, who recounted the contributions of
NOPSSCEA to education, culture and sports and described its 25 years
of quality service.
Presenters from Riverside College, Colegio San Agustin,
St. Scholastica Academy, and the St. Joseph High School Chorus showcased
their winning performances in the dance and singing competitions.
The La Consolacionb College-Bacolod Chorale led the singing of the
NOPSSCEA theme song, "We are One," the press release added.*
