Masked men kill
farmer in Bindoy

A 24-year-old farmer died due to loss of blood while fleeing from four masked men who were looking for him just Wednesday in his house in Sitio Talaptap, Brgy. Nalundan, 23 kilometers from poblacion Bindoy, in Oriental Negros.

Police identified the slain man as Jonito Rodriguez, who, before the incident was eating dinner with his wife, Carmen, and their two children, initial police investigation showed.

Carmen told investigators it was 7 p.m. when they heard a voice looking for her husband.

Dumaguete Diocese to lead
signature campaign vs. STL

The Diocese of Dumaguete, through its Diocesan Council of the Laity, will spearhead a signature campaign objecting to the entry of the Small Town Lottery in any city or municipality within its jurisdiction.

Woodrow Maquiling, council president said the campaign will start next month in 17 municipalities and four cities, and the province of Siquijor, which is under to the diocese.

The diocese also covers the towns of Basay, Sta. Catalina, Siaton, Zamboanguita, Dauin, Bacong, Valencia, Sibulan, San Jose, Amlan, Pamplona, Mabinay, Manjuyod, Bindoy, Ayungon, Tayasan and Jimalalud, and the cities of Bayawan, Dumaguete, Tanjay and Bais.

Man hacks elder brother

A man was hacked allegedly by his younger brother because of a personal grudge Saturday night in Brgy. Calabnogan, Sibulan, Oriental Negros.

A police report identified the victim as Ricardo Alaban and the suspect as Pelagio Alaban, both residents of the area. The victim was declared safe by doctors at Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.

Police said Pelagio hacked his brother with a long bolo hitting him on the back, head, and arm.
