The trip of Domingo Lacson National High School for the 2006 Senior
League World Series in Lower Sussex, Delaware was aborted Saturday
when the financial assistance expected from the organizers of the
international event did not arrive.
Williamsports, which was supposed to shoulder the fare of
the 14 players and three coaches of DLNHS, was not able to send
the money amounting to about P1.2 million on time, prompting the
Bacolod-based squad to cancel its trip.
Domingo Lacson coach Hernando "Kulafu" Posadas told the DAILY
STAR last night that the WS organizers were not able to send the
money because of some flaws in the processing of their tickets for
the trip.
The fare to the US of the DLNHS squad was supposed to be shouldered
by Williamsports after the Bacolod team ruled the Asia-Pacific Senior
Girls Softball Tournament in Manila in June.
The initial flight of the Domingo Lacson contingent was set
at 10:40 p.m. Friday, but it was rescheduled to 10:40 Saturday.
Posadas, who guided Domingo Lacson to fifth place finishes
in its past two WS campaigns, said that they never expected for
their trip to be aborted due to financial constraints because the
bulk of their expenses was supposed to be handled by the international
event's organizers.
"The experience is very painful for us because we were more
than ready to compete," Posadas said. He said that the softbelles
were even practicing on Friday morning because they were expecting
to have a successful campaign in the WS since they knew they could
compete well with their opponents in their bracket.
DLNHS was supposed to be playing in Bracket A together with America
South, host District III, America East and Canada. Posadas also
asked the people who helped them financially in their trip to Manila
to forgive them for their unintended aborted trip. *CIT
