WNC WARMS UP FOR
LA SALLE DUEL WITH 5-O ROUT OF UNO-R
BY CEDELF P. TUPAS & CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

It was not a flashback --- the sight of ex-RP Team striker Norman Fegidero rushing down the left flank, beating two defenders before firing a left-footed low shot for another goal at the Paglaum Sports Complex pitch.

It was Fegidero, now 36, relieving his glory days yesterday, slotting two goals in 10-men West Negros College's 5-0 rout of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in the division 1 tournament of the NOFA Provincial Men's Open Championships.

One of the most feared strikers in the Philippines in the 1990s was at the heart of the WNC attack yesterday. Fegidero broke the ice in the 5th minute, delivering a blistering left foot strike after a loose ball scramble inside the box.

Negrense appointed Philta VP
BY CEDELF TUPAS

Negrense sportsman Roberto "Bert" Porras, the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association regional vice-president for Western Visayas, yesterday vowed to focus on grassroots development and help re-organize tennis clubs in the region.

The appointment of Porras, 68, was formalized two weeks ago when the former Negros Occidental Tennis Association president attended the PHILTA Board Meeting in Manila, coinciding with the hosting of the Group III matches of the Davis Cup.

Porras was initially appointed PHILTA Region VI-A officer-in-charge by the tennis association's president, Manuel Misa. Porras said the dwindling number of players coming out from the grassroots level needs to be addressed by coming up with more tournaments and proper training programs.

Tay Tung, Stallions
prevail in BUSG tilt

Bacolod Tay Tung High School and the Stallions defeated their respective opponents over the weekend to share the lead in the 2nd Basketball Unified Sports Group-Sharp Cup 17-Under Tournament at the Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.

BTTHS tripped Mansilingan Christian Academy, 90-84, Saturday before posting an impressive 83-61 win against St. Benilde School yesterday for a share of the top spot with a 2-0 slate.

The Stallions, comprised of players from Pueblo Rosario-Eroreco, scored a 72-60 victory over SBS, mentored by Christian Escote, Saturday to have a share of the lead.
