A massive tree-planting activity on all major highways all throughout
the country called "Green Philippine Highway" will be launched 10
a.m. Aug. 25 by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources,
a DENR-Negros Occidental office press release said.
In the province, a synchronized tree-planting and human chain
of about 60,000 participants will start along the 115-kilometer
stretch of the Philippine Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo nautical highway,
from the Bacolod City reclamation area port to the boundary of Negros
Occidental in Brgy. Tagukon, Kabankalan City, and Oriental Negros
in Mabinay town. Environment Secretary Angelo Reyes said the project
is aimed at inculcating in the Filipinos the value of nurturing
trees and as custodians of the environment, the press release said.
Negros Occidental environment officer Livino Duran is appealing
to the public to join the endeavor. Those interested may call the
