The first "Agricultural Growth through Information and Knowledge
Networking" or e-AGRIKultura project was launched recently by the
Department of Agrarian Reform in Buruanga town in Aklan.
DAR said in a press release that the recipients were members
of the Tag-osip-El Progreso Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries' Multipurpose
Cooperative and farmers from Barangays Balusbod, El Progreso, Nazareth,
Tag-osip, Cabugan and Habana agrarian reform communities.
E-AGRIKultura is a partnership program of the DAR, the Philippine-Australia
Technical Support for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development and
the Development Academy of the Philippines, the press release said.
Secretary Nasser Pangandaman said the project intends to push
agricultural development by providing farmers their own e-community
centers. He said that through the E-agrikultura centers, the farmers
would be able to go online and access information on the latest
agricultural technologies, marketing opportunities and other agricultural
events, the press release added.
DAR will establish six e-AGRIKultura centers in various parts
of the country. Each center will be equipped with computers, printers,
monitors, modems, CD writers, scanner, photocopier, web camera,
digital camera and computer softwares.
Agrarian reform communities are clusters of barangays with farmer-beneficiaries
who were awarded with lands and with convergence of development
initiatives from national government service agencies, local government
units, non-government organizations, and foreign donor communities
to support the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.*
