tutorials offered

Basic computer tutorials are being offered by Le Cafnet at the ground level of Mayfair Plaza, corner 12th Lacson Street in Bacolod City, a press release from its management said.

Things will be done faster using the computers and basic computer literacy has become a must: from education to business and communication to entertainment, among others, it also said.

With Le Cafnet's program, beginners will learn through one-on-one instruction on how to use the computer, what make up the computer unit, and what it can do in easy to understand steps.

Tutorials also include the most basic computer software and the use of the internet, the press release said. Inquiries on the tutorials may be made by calling Le Cafnet at 434-5367, the press release added.*

Parole and Probation
6 to host national confab

The Parole and Probation Administration-Western Visayas will host the 10th National Convention, 8th National Training Institute and 3rd National Sports Development Program of PPA, May 2 to 5, at the Bacolod Convention Plaza Hotel, in Bacolod City.

The convention theme is "Meeting the Challenges of the Parole and Probation Administration: The Global Community."

About 500 PPA officers and personnel are expected to attend the biennial gathering, which is aimed at renewing bonds and strengthening professional ties among the participants, a press release from the agency said. An observation tour-cum-lecture-briefing on avenues for entrepreneurship was held last month to prepare for the event, it also said.

Spearheading the national affair are PPOLPI president Robert Minguez, Region 6 director Emetri Amoroso, and assistant regional director Domingo Nalumen, the press release added.*

Three-month legal clinics
for DLR people's day set

Three farmer beneficiaries from Hinigaran were wounded in a strafing incident reportedly staged by about nine blueguards detailed at the property of Cham Yusay in Hacienda Katamsikan, Brgy. Quiwi, Hinigaran in Negros Occidental at about 7:30 a.m. yesterday.

Jose Java, 62 and his son Ramil, 38 and their neighbor Louella Rusia were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City with gunshot wounds allegedly inflicted by the blue guards, police reports said.

Meanwhile, Security guard Pontevillar Dela Cerna, 31, married, of Hacienda Nabal, Himamaylan City and detailed at the Yusay property, reported to the Hinigaran PNP that the Javas, Ramy Juvilla and Ramon Goboc armed with a shotgun, .357 and .38 caliber revolvers, shot him and his companions yesterday morning, police reports said. Dela Cerna was rushed to the Hinigaran Emergency Hospital with gunshot wounds in his legs, the reports added.

Rusia's niece, Rona, 26, told the DAILY STAR yesterday, she and her neighbors were pulling out weeds in the field when the guards approached and shot them.

She said she hid at the nearby canal while some of her companions scampered.

Patricia Java, 60, said she heard the strafing that lasted more than an hour. Later, she said, she saw her husband and son lying wounded on the ground.
