| The Interim Federation of Irrigators' Association of Bago River
Irrigation System and the National Irrigation Administration-BRIS in Bago City
have agreed in a joint resolution to start water delivery and distribution starting
May 1. Irrigation Superintendent I Dionisio Asencio furnished Gov. Joseph
Maraņon a copy of the joint resolution on April 12, while the Office of the Provincial
Agriculturist received its copy on April 17. Last week, a farmer from
Bago City complained that the NIA-BRIS has refused to open the Lateral A and B
portion of the irrigation system for three weeks beginning April 10 to allow them
to plan their first cropping before the start of its repair. The joint
resolution, however, stated that it was agreed that on May 1 to 7, initial delivery
of irrigation water will be on a free-flowing basis for the North and South Districts.
Scheduling will start on May 7, 12 noon, until May 15, 12 noon, for the South
District and May 15, 12 noon, until May 21, 12 noon, for the North District.
The agreed number of days for the water delivery schedule will be eight days for
the South District and six days for the North District and will be observed throughout
the entire scheduling of water delivery and distribution. The joint resolution
added that the end of water delivery and distribution next year will be determined
later in concurrence with the Project Management Office of Bago River Irrigation
System Rehabilitation and Improvement Project schedule of construction activities.
Thirty presidents of irrigation associations were present when the resolution
was passed during their meeting on April 4 at the NIA Guest House and Training
Center in Bago City. The joint resolution was attested by Abdon Palma by
Interim Federation president and concurred by Asencio and Santiago Eslaban Jr.,
project manager of NIA-BRISRIP.*NLG back
