Panaad fest opens
today with PBB

The Pana-ad sa Negros Festival 2006 officially kicks off today with 22 towns and cities competing in the "Best of Festival Dances" at the Panaad Stadium at Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City at 1 p.m.

At 7 p.m. there will be a fireworks display that will be different from what was shown last year and a little bit longer, Gov. Joseph Maraņon said yesterday.

And at 8 p.m. the Pinoy Big Brother Show will be staged at the Panaad stadium with the first batch housemates and Keanna Reeves, the celebrity edition winner, he said.

Gov. Joseph Maraņon yesterday said he hopes a big crowd will attend this year's Panaad Festival. The festival, with the theme "Tatak Negros (Proudly Negros-made) will run until April 30.

Today the activities will start at 6 a.m. with the Hataw sa Panaad exercises with Ching at the football field, a thankgiving mass at 8 a.m. and at 9 a.m. the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for an Overseas Filipino Workers Helpline.

At 9 a.m. the theme pavilions and trade fair, organic food festival, festival costumes and photo exhibit, and garden show at the Panaad will also open.

On Sunday at 1 p.m. a Panaad derby will be held at the covered court, at 4 p.m. a National Dog Agility Competition and K9 Dog Show will be held, while a pop dance competition will be staged at 8 p.m. (Panaad activities schedule on page 7).

Meanwhile, Maraņon said he was informed that the visit of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to Bacolod Thursday for a convention of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines will be short. He said the advance party of the president will arrive in Bacolod tomorrow.*CPG
