gunning for 2 titles

San Carlos City eye two crowns today when it plays in the finals of the Negros Occidental Football Association Under-17 Interclub Provincial Football Championships and the NOFA Red Ribbon Under-15 Football Championships at the University of St. La Salle pitch.

The San Carlos booters thrashed Pontevedra, 6-0, yesterday to book a place in the finals of the Under-17 competitions, after its Under-15 squad scored a resounding 13-0 victory over St. Benilde Integrated School to earn a ticket to the title showdown.

West Negros College nipped Victorias City, 2-1, to gain the other finals slot in the Under-17 tournament, while Pontevedra edged Ma-ao United, 1-0, in the other Under-15 semifinals. The Dennis Peņalosa-mentored San Carlos Under-17 squad tackles WNC in the finals at 2:30 p.m., after its Under-15 booters collide with Pontevedra at 1 p.m.

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and University of St. La Salle lady spikers split their respective assignments yesterday in the 1st National Oriental Negros All Ladies National Invitational Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Gov. Mariano Perdices Coliseum in Dumaguete City.

UNO-R bets Christine Dioso and Jenny Torres, coached by Jason Delmo, smashed Negros Oriental State University, 25-12, in Bracket B, before suffering a 20-25 setback against University of San Agustin-Iloilo.

Taculing, Tangub
etch second wins

Barangays Taculing and Tangub trounced different opponents yesterday to score their second victories each in the 2006 Monico Cup Inter-Barangay Summer Basketball Tournament at the Brgy. Granada Gym in Bacolod City.

Taculing drubbed Brgy. 12, 69-55, in Bracket C, while the Allan Cabalhin-mentored Tangub cagers posted an impressive 59-35 triumph over Brgy. 3 in Bracket B. Also registering its second win yesterday was Brgy. Estefania, routing Brgy. 16, 78-63, as well as Brgy. Villamonte, which hammered Brgy. 39, 83-70. Brgy. Montevista barged into the win column after scoring a 79-72 triumph against Brgy. 10.
