UNO-R, USLS volleybelles split
assignments in Dumaguete tussle

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and University of St. La Salle lady spikers split their respective assignments yesterday in the 1st National Oriental Negros All Ladies National Invitational Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Gov. Mariano Perdices Coliseum in Dumaguete City.

UNO-R bets Christine Dioso and Jenny Torres, coached by Jason Delmo, smashed Negros Oriental State University, 25-12, in Bracket B, before suffering a 20-25 setback against University of San Agustin-Iloilo.

The USLS tandem of Ola Lopez and Jane Aplasca barged into the win column in Bracket A, prevailing over M Laborte, 25-22, after losing Iloilo Doctor's College, 10-25, in its earlier game. UNO-R is on pace to earn a semifinal spot as its sits second in Bracket B with a 3-1 slate behind frontrunner USA-Iloilo (4-0), while the La Sallians have a 1-2 win-loss record for a tied fourth in Bracket A with Bayawan.

Recoletos battles Oriental Negros today, while USLS tussles with Cebu-based University of San Jose Recoletos and Bracket A leader Tanjay Ctiy (3-0).

Oriental Negros is in third place in Bracket A at 2-1, while Southwestern University, Foundation University and NORSU have 2-2, 0-3 and 0-4 slates, respectively.

USJR is sitting second in Bracket A at 2-0 as IDC and M Laborte have 2-1 and 0-3 win-loss cards, respectively.

Tournament organizer Roger Banzuela, president of the Beach Volleyball Association of the Philippines, said the top two squads per bracket will advance to the semifinals. *CIT
