Prices of "B" or raw sugar range from P1,220 to P1,285 per 50-kilo
Lkg. at the bidding on Thursday, a little higher than the prices
before the Holy Week.
On April 6, millgate prices leveled between P1,215 and P1,280
while a week earlier, prices went as high as P1,298 per lkg. from
only between P1,200 and P1,254 on March 23.
Data from the Sugar Master Plan Foundation show that this
week, BISCOM disposed its stocks at P1,272 per Lkg (high) and P1,260
(low); Hawaiian-Philippine Company, P1,285.63 (high) and P1,271.08
(low); SONEDCO, P1,250;
VMC, P1,220; Lopez Sugar Corp., P1,220; Sagay Central Inc.,
P1,235; CADP, P1,250; BUSCO, P1,250; Passi I, P1,281.50 and Passi
II, P1,261.50, and Pilar, P1,251.50.
BISCOM disposed a total of 5,723.25 Lkgs.; HPCO, 25,353.63;
SONEDCO, 9,852.64; and VMC, 11,048.34 Lkgs. Dacongcogon and Central
Azucarera de Carlota had already ended their respective milling
seasons.
The Negros to Metro Manila price structure of raw sugar released
by the Sugar Regulatory Administration shows that from a millgate
price of P1,200 per Lkg, for example, retail price could reach P1,468
per Lkg, including transport and handling cost and repacking cost,
among others.
With transport and handling cost pegged at P53 and trading
margin and other costs, at P50, the wholesale price would be P1,303.
Add to that the P15 handling/transport cost to repacker; P75,
repacking cost; and P75, retailing margin and other costs, the retail
price would be P1,468, equivalent to P29.36 per kilo in Metro Manila.*NLG
