'B' sugar millgate prices
still above P1,200 level

Prices of "B" or raw sugar range from P1,220 to P1,285 per 50-kilo Lkg. at the bidding on Thursday, a little higher than the prices before the Holy Week.

On April 6, millgate prices leveled between P1,215 and P1,280 while a week earlier, prices went as high as P1,298 per lkg. from only between P1,200 and P1,254 on March 23.

Hog farmers to hold nat'l
convention in Cagayan de Oro

Thousands of hog farmers from all over the country will converge at the National Federation of Hog Farmers Inc.'s 15th Hog Convention and Trade Exhibit on April 28 to 30 at the Atrium of the Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro City, a press release from the organizers said.

NFHFI national chairman is Nemesio G. Co while president is Albert R.T. Lim Jr. of the Negros Occidental Hog Raisers Association. This year's convention, themed "Convergence of Hog Entrepreneurs for Enhancement of Raisers' Strategies or CHEERS!, will be hosted by the Northern Mindanao Hog Raisers Association Inc. headed by Fortunato Venegas, the press release said.

Agriculture Secretary Domingo Panganiban will be the keynote speaker during the opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. on April 28, while Rep. Benasing Macarambon, chairman of the House committee on agriculture, will be the luncheon speaker.

PNOC-EC set to release
P20 million in dividends

The PNOC-Exploration Corp. will soon release its stockholders dividends amounting to P20 million, the government-owned company said in a press release yesterday.

Its shares of stock are 99.78 percent owned by the Philippine government through its mother company, Philippine National Oil Corp., while the remaining 0.22 percent is held by public stockholders. PNOC-Exploration Corp. had earlier posted a sharp 450 percent increase in its audited net income for 2005 amounting to P 2.8 billion. However, its unrestricted retained earnings, taking into account the deficits in the previous year, only amounted to about P 40 million, of which 50 percent will be released as dividends, the press release said.
